PORT WASHINGTON, NY, December 6, 1996 -- TDK U.S.A. Corporation today announced the promotion of Francis J. Sweeney, Jr. to the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In this position, Mr. Sweeney will be responsible for the business operations of TDK U.S.A. Corporation.
In making today's announcement, Mr. Kenichi Aoshima, President and Chief Executive Officer of TDK U.S.A. Corporation, noted that Mr. Sweeney's new assignment is intended to enhance the quality of the company's business process and to help direct the company's efforts in new business creation.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Sweeney served as Vice President (since 1994), General Counsel (since 1989), Secretary (since 1992) and as a member of the Board of Directors (since 1996). He will continue to serve as General Counsel, Secretary and Board Member and retain responsibility over legal affairs, investor relations and public affairs. Reporting to him in this new capacity are the company's accounting and finance, tax, human resources and administration, and MIS departments.
Mr. Sweeney joined TDK in 1989 from The Hertz Corporation, where he served as Senior Staff Counsel. He earned his B.A. from Villanova University and his J.D. degree from Fordham University. He presently lives in Wilton, CT with his wife Victoria and their four children.
